In cooking, what we do with our “ingredients” is guided by our “recipe”… in the Zentangle method of drawing, we where we draw our “tangles” is guided by our “string” (which we created in the previous step).
what’s a Tangle?
A tangle is the result of using a specific drawing process (see What is tangle) and if it:
- has certain characteristics, identified by Zentangle.com;
- has been deconstructed into a “step-out” of instructions to simplify reproduction; and
- has been declared to be a tangle on TanglePatterns.com.
Note: “Official” tangles are ones designed by people at Zentangle.com.
optional: get more info:
Over the years, I’ve learned quite a few tangles and these are some of my favorites because they are either easy to remember/draw or they were worth the effort to learn). And here are some places on the Internet to explore for more:
- TanglePatterns.com.
- YouTube — especially Melinda Barlow’s channel.
or… just Do it:
- Use a pen (traditionally a black Micron 01)
- Fill each section of your string with a different tangle
- … or with the same tangle
- … or with whatever combination you want
next Step:
- Add “flavor” with “spices” — Enhance!
