Mounding the Round
The spherical Zinnia is covered with very small petals, the shape (ink) and shading (pencil) of which can emphasize its very round and mounded form — an excellent subject for the exploration of form shadow (to explore cast shadow, see Demo: Carnation)
shapes to Explore:
- Bloom — spherical (round mound)
- Petals number — many, overlapping, radiating from center
- Petal shape – oval to rectangle with rounded corners
- Petal size — small (even outer petals are small-ish)
- Petal tip — curls down (except in center section)
- Center — radiating network (thread-like) — same color as petals
- Center extra – circle of small orbs (un-opened petals) – light color (different from color of petals)
things to Notice:
- shade the “form” – to emphasize mounded shape of the bloom
- go to Me & My Shading for more info
for a Gallery:
- black ink on white Zentangle® tile (3½”x3½”)
- blossom shaded with graphite, then colored pencil/pens
