I know of 3 ways to create a digital palette:
- Use a Palette Generator, for example at color.adobe.com
- Use a photo-editing program to create a “color table” from an image
- Make your own, from one color!
For this post, let’s choose #3 and learn from the YouTube video called “Make Hundreds of Color Palettes from 1 COLOR!‘ by The Futur Academy. Here are my notes:
When picking your palette, try this:
- for colors to the left: choose saturation (along the arc) to the left and hue from bottom up
- for colors to the right: choose saturation (along the arc) to the right and hue from top down
And then divide your palette into 3 rows, like this:
- for colors on the top row: increase lightness, decrease saturation, and slightly move hue to left
- for colors on the bottom row: decrease lightness, increase saturation, and slightly move hue to right
One final option:
- Add a layer, filled with color
- Change blend mode to Overlay
- Repeat for even more variations
Note the cohesiveness of all the colors
