Perspective
… an art technique to make something seem farther away, by creating the illusion of depth.
Two basic types in Art:
- Atmospheric — relative texture, clarity, value, and color saturation/temperature, all reducing into the distance — defining the affect of space between object and viewer.
- Linear — relative size of objects, reducing in the distance — defined by number of vanishing points on the horizon line (1-point, 2-point, 3-point, and multi-point).

This tangle pattern by CZT Alice Hendon CZT is just lines … and an opportunity to explore creating the illusion of distance when you just draw lines.
shapes to Explore:
- Mounds of repeated lines
- Background mounds… drawn “behind” foreground mounds
things to Notice:
Foreground (f-g) vs Background (b-g):
- line Spacing — regular in f-g; closer together into b-g
- line Quality — regular in f-g; less pressure, with gaps into b-g
- line Thickness — regular in f-g; thinner into b-g
- line Color — regular in f-g; cooler/lighter (blue-greyed) into b-g
- Texture — regular in f-g; smoother (out of focus) into b-g
for a Gallery:
- black ink on white Zentangle® tile (3½”x3½”)
- shaded with graphite, then colored pencil/pens
