After all, tangling with ink on paper can be such a relaxing and natural experience. So, why complicate it with machinery?
… it has Benefits:
- to Test Options – including different grid layouts (see this post), shading possibilities, colors, enhancing options, etc.
- to Create Step-Outs – improves consistency; can make changes easily, when use “layers” and other features.
- to Experiment – including using different brush shapes, sizes, textures, colors, etc.
- to Practice
… need to avoid Negatives:
- Too mechanized? — remedy: turn off “streamline” on brushes for more natural line-making
- Shortcuts (paint drop) — remedy: don’t drag/drop paint into areas; instead, hand-fill each space… for the Zen of it.
- Too precise? — remedy: don’t zoom in; instead, embrace the natural-ness (remember: no mistakes)
… the brushes:
- For “lines” — I use a monoline brush, size variation minimized
- For “shade/highlight” — I use a soft-edge brush
